CHARACTER
Name: Minerva McGonagall
Age/Birthdate: 74 years old. Born October 4, 1925.
Bloodline: Pure blood
Allegiance: Outsider, swore allegiance to Voldemort to fight the establishment from the inside.
Sexuality: Bisexual
Family: Minerva's brother, Julius, was killed by the Death Eaters soon after Dumbledore's defeat. Her sister Diana, now 54, fled to France and Minerva alone remains in England. She's in close contact with her sister.
RULING CLASSES/OUTSIDER
Ruling Class or Outsider?: Outsider
Occupation: Ex-teacher at Hogwarts, is now a bookshop owner in London near King's Cross station.
Place/Country of Residence London, UK. The bookshop (The Pumpkin and The Phoenix).
Appearance: Tall and slim, Minerva has blue eyes and short white hair. She dresses smart with Muggle clothes to blend in - since her bookshop is both a wizard and Muggle shop - with an assortment of shades of blue, grey, black, white and tartan. She wears glasses from time to time, particularly when dealing with new orders and some personal jewelry worn mostly for sentimental reasons, such as a pearl necklace offered to her by one of her former lovers, Amelia Bones.
Her animagus form is that of a tabby cat with square markings around the eyes.
PB: Maggie Smith; HERE & HERE
Personality: Minerva McGonagall is a tough woman who's seen it all and lived to tell the tale but she's not a fatalist, hence her staying in England to be close to the establishment she wants to bring down. She's an idealist who sees the big picture and the plight they're all in but she's lived enough to remember that alternatives exist, if only one is courageous enough to stick around, and she is. She's an intellectual, no-nonsense woman who enjoys sports, particularly Quidditch, reading and dancing. She misses Hogwarts and is always trying to be aware of what's going on at the Slytherin Academy.
The bookshop is a good coverage as well as a refuge - not prone to lose her temper unless she feels passionate about a cause, Minerva finds some relief in being surrounded by books and it's also a good way to keep track of what's going on in both worlds - the shop, on top of selling books, carries a good selection of magazines and newspapers from both the Muggle and wizarding worlds (the bookshop has a special entrance for wizards and a dedicated section.)
Minerva is rather strict and her favourite weapon is dry wit, she's a straightforward, intelligent woman who's very professional with all her customers but she hasn't lost her appetite for life.
Special Abilities: Minerva is a Registered Animagus.
History: Minerva was born on October 4, 1925 in Edinburgh of magical parents. She had a peaceful childhood, attending Hogwarts between 1937 and 1944, where she befriended (and more) Rolanda Hooch (later Quidditch teacher) and took Myrtle under her care until she was brutally killed by a Basilisk. She was also friends with Walburga Black until the two differed too much to remain on good terms. She never met Tom Riddle. Minerva was a confident, reliable student who always obtained good grades, managing to become an Animagus in her seventh year. After graduating from Hogwarts, she went to train as a teacher and worked in Flourish and Blotts as an apprentice for a few years. She was then hired to teach Transfiguration by Albus Dumbledore - it was high praise indeed, since the man himself had taught her the subject at school and it was partly because of his excellent teaching that she'd had such ease with Transfiguration.
She befriended Albus as he managed to give her the inspiration she needed to use her talent outside of Hogwarts - although she considered becoming an Auror, she couldn't leave the school and liked knowing that her students were safe. Besides teaching at Hogwarts, she taught Aurors hopefuls advanced Transfiguration and was often called for advice on particularly tricky matters of the Dark Arts. At Hogwarts, always with the aim of challenging herself, she often met Albus at the top of the Astronomy Tower at night for friendly duels.
It was naturally that she joined the Order of the Phoenix when asked.
When Albus was killed while fighting Voldemort, Minerva acted as Headmistress and ordered the evacuation of all the students. Before long, the Order Headquarters were attacked as well as Minerva's family - Diana fled to France but Alastor was the one to bring her the news of Julius' death. She found some comfort in the arms of Alastor and entered a relationship of many years. She fought Voldemort's supporters for a while and then realized he had quickly taken control of the whole country - rather than risk Diana and Alastor's safety and always willing to fight from the inside, she swore allegiance to Voldemort and kept a low profile. She went back to Flourish and Blotts, only to see it destroyed and replaced with a bookshop dedicated to the Dark Arts. Determined to save what she could, she opened The Moody Pumpkin in London, after Alastor's pet name for her. When he was killed in 1993, she closed the shop for a year and has only recently reopened it under the name The Pumpkin & the Phoenix.

Journal entry:
Opened the shop early today and received the Daily Prophet with a crosswords on the topic of Muggles (needless to say it soon went to join the latest edition of Crucio Weekly in the rubbish bin) and the new books for the curriculum. A copy of Purebloods: a Family tree to Help With Your Regulation Form This Year and an updated edition of The Tales of Beedle the Bard. I daren't open it. The wizard who delivered them seemed to be under the influence of the Imperius Curse, his reflexes left much to be desired. I mumbled my usual thanks and changed the window display to give the two books a more prominent place for I know Ministry inspectors willl soon check whether or not I have the official books. The Muggle world is hardly better, ordered several copies of a novel about Greek mythology only to see all the genealogy has been altered 'to reflect new found evidence of the Dark Lord's relation to Zeus.' Should send a copy to Diana for some comic relief.
A few customers came in and I have one special order to take care of first thing tomorrow. Rolanda sent me tickets to next month's match between the Appleby Arrows and the Quiberon Quafflepunchers. She told me she was contacted by the Quafflepunchers to provide some last-minute advice and obliged. If you ask me, the only sensible advice they can receive is to change the colour of their robes. I remember fondly her article in Quidditch Today in which she accused them of 'blinding the whole stadium with their robes, it's a wonder anyone followed the Quaffle in this distateful display of pink.'
Lunch with Tom tomorrow, must ask him how Leaky's going, I'm bringing him homemade cake, hopefully it'll be enough to keep suspicions at bay.
Third person:
Minerva adjusted her robes - dressing like a Muggle and living in a mostly non-magical area of London under Voldemort's reign meant she always felt slightly foolish wearing her robes. The Statute of Secrecy had long been repealed which meant she could carry a wand without hiding it if she so wished. In fact, it was encouraged to teach the Muggles some respect.
She Apparated near a telephone booth and waited for Tom to come out of the Leaky Cauldron. She'd heard rumours that the place was going to be shut and replaced with a branch of The Hog's Head which Aberforth had been forced to sell to Yaxley. While waiting for Tom, she admired the window display of an antique shop. When she squinted to have a better look of a clock that looked familiar, she felt someone tapping on her shoulder and heard Tom's warm voice greeting her:
'Always attracted to shiny items, Minerva, I see.'
